Vicky’s Fight against Ovarian and Uterine Cancers

Hi sweet friends. I want to update you on my condition. I have been battling Low-Grade Ovarian cancer since 2017. Six years later, with the help of my sister Annie, my brothers Ralph and Graham, their families (who have become my families), my family, my Costco family, and a group of truly amazing friends (you all know who you are) my loving pets, and everyone who has been in my corner from the start, I continue to fight this disease. I will never give up. It’s through all your love and support that I gain strength.
Sadly, last summer, I was diagnosed with a second cancer, Clear Cell Endometrial cancer. It’s a rare form of uterine cancer that only makes up less than 5% of endometrial cancers. Due to my surgeon’s poor judgment in 2017, my uterus was not removed when they took out my ovaries. Since then, I have learned that with my type of ovarian cancer, it’s standard procedure to remove the uterus as well, due to the risk of cancer down the line. At the time, I was too naive to know that, and I trusted my doctor. I now have this second, very aggressive, and fast-growing uterine cancer. I don’t have any more treatment options available to me due to the fact that my ovarian cancer is very advanced in my body, therefore no surgeon will perform surgery on me to remove my uterus. The uterine cancer did not respond to radiation and continues to spread quickly, causing a significant decline in my health and prognosis.
As I come to terms with the limitations of my condition, and the time I have left, my focus has shifted towards ensuring a smooth transition for my sister when I am no longer here. Having lost our mother to Cervical cancer in 2007, my sister and I have faced significant challenges together. I am determined to spare her additional burdens by alleviating any financial responsibilities left behind. This is where I humbly ask for your support. Your financial contribution will help me put plans in place for the future, settle my debts, and relieve my sister of any financial stress that may arise. I understand that times are challenging for everyone, but even the smallest gesture can make a significant impact. Your kindness and generosity during this time are truly appreciated.
Whether you're able to contribute or simply took the time to read my story, I'm grateful for your compassion. Let this be a reminder to hold your loved ones close and cherish every moment you share together. I'd like to take a moment to encourage all the incredible women out there to empower themselves with knowledge about the symptoms of Ovarian, Uterine, and Cervical cancers. These symptoms can often mimic those of menstrual issues, and it's unfortunately common for these cancers to progress significantly before they're diagnosed. If you find yourself experiencing recurring symptoms, I urge you to advocate for yourself and press your doctors for comprehensive tests such as CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, physical exams, and more. In the case of a diagnosis, take the initiative to learn as much as you can right from the beginning. Don't rely solely on your doctor to provide you with all of the information as many details could get missed. Patients like us often aren't aware of the right questions to ask, which is why connecting with other cancer patients, and survivors, and seeking second opinions are crucial steps.
Once again, thank you for your support, love, and kindness. Your presence in my journey has made an immeasurable difference. With heartfelt gratitude, Vicky
