Victims of Scam Operation Trying to Recover
Hello, my name is Ashlyn Drake. I’m a stay at home mom with my 2 young kids, while my husband serves in the U.S. Army. We recently just moved to Alaska for his career so we are far away from friends, family, and anything to what we recognize as home.
One afternoon I saw a “military wife” post on a local military Facebook page about a work from home job hiring for $15/hr while training & $20/hr after training. I decided I wanted to help our family bring in a second income while still being able to stay home with our kids. I thought this job was going to be perfect for me and also be perfect for our family in the end. I went through the hiring process and so on. The first task I was asked to do was deposit checks they sent me to purchase my office supplies for this job. Once those funds hit my account, I would then mail off the money from these checks in the form of money orders, cash, or even through money apps. This went on for about 5 days or so until I reached out to my bank wondering why they locked down our bank account. This is when I was told the checks I received were forged and a scam and not real checks. Now we have gone negative in our bank account and have to pay back every cent to our bank. They also are ending the banking relationship with us after this.
I later found out that military wife that posted about this job was just a hacked account that had access to all military pages posting about this job opportunity all over.
Typing my story out makes me feel sick to my stomach all over again. I don’t ever ask for help, I especially do not like asking for money that I can’t pay back, but my family really needs some help. We would greatly appreciate any help that we can get. Any size, shape, or form means so much to us.
Thank y’all for taking time to read about our horrific story.
