In July 2017, Victor Cortez was diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer that has spread to his lungs. This loving husband and father of two is a Detective with Gwinnett County Police Department and needs your help as he battles cancer.
Victor was born in Tucson, Arizona and grew up traveling the world thanks to his father's position as a DEA special agent. Mexico, Bolivia, Ecuador, Texas, California, and Virginia are just some of the places he called home.
At 20, he followed in his father and brother's footsteps and enlisted in the US Army. After completing basic training and other necessary training at Fort Benning, GA he was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA with the 1st Ranger Battalion. He deployed 3 times with his unit - twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan.
In 2006, he was honorably discharged from the Army and moved to the DC area to finish college. In 2009, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Administration of Justice from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Since then Victor has worked in law enforcement in several different capacities. He has been with the Gwinnett County Police Department since 2014.
Victor has been married to his HS sweetheart, Jessica, for 10 years and they have a 2 year old little girl, Mackenzie, and recently welcomed a son, Lucas.
Victor needs your help to cover the many medical bills that are unfortunately associated with the fight against cancer. He has been receiving chemotherapy since his diagnosis in July of 2017.
