My name is Eraiza. My heart breaks as I watch my little brother, who has tirelessly battled cerebral palsy and epilepsy his entire life, slowly slip away. The reality of his impending death is devastating enough, but the knowledge that we as a family cannot afford proper end-of-life services intensifies the pain and hopelessness. I am filled with a deep sense of despair and helplessness as I witness his suffering without the ability to provide him with the care and support he so desperately needs in his final moments. The thought of him facing this journey alone, without the comfort and dignity he deserves, is unbearable. Every day feels like a cruel countdown to goodbye, leaving me feeling raw, vulnerable, and utterly powerless in the face of this heartbreaking tragedy.
My little brother was born prematurely at 4 months and 2 weeks old and given a life expectancy of weeks. He has survived 37 years, with his illnesses such as left hemiparesis, mental disability, reactive airway disease, dysphagia, gastrostomy tube dependence, hiccough, hyposmolality, hyponatremia, infantile cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and acute respiratory failure with hypoxia.
We wish to have his end-of-life services with dignity and respect as he has suffered through life and has reached his time of peace and comfort.
