Victoria Verret Cancer Fund

Hi everyone. I never thought I'd be in a position to have to ask for donations for someone that I love, but life always seems to come at you unexpectedly. My 24 year old best friend, Victoria Verret, was diagnosed on March 10, 2017 with Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkins Lymphoma, which is a very rare type of Lymphoma. To give you guys the background story on how this all came about: Victoria discovered a lump in her neck about two years ago, and her family doctor said to just keep an eye on it. Other than having a lump on her neck, she showed no signs or symptoms of cancer. This was the furthest thought from her mind, which is why she did not pursue a second opinion and just let time pass. In January of this year, she went to the doctor and they recommended that she have a biopsy done. Victoria underwent an open-biopsy. The doctor removed 2 lymphnodes from her neck and within a few days, she received the results and news that she does in fact, have cancer. Immediately she knew she wanted to go to MD Anderson so she, her boyfriend, and her family set out to Houston. They spent five days there, where she did more tests and received her cancer treatment plan. Her treatment plan will consist of four weeks of taking a drug called Rituximab that will destory the cancer cells throughout her body. If this goes as planned, and she is in remission, she then will undergo four weeks of localized radiation to the neck five days a week. This will require her to live in Houston for those four weeks. At this point, the cancer should be gone and then she will begin her two year maintence treatment of getting back on Rituximab. This will be administered once every three months for the next two years. Although this medication will help in preventing her lymphoma from coming back, it comes with the price of possible infertility. With that being said, her doctors from MD Anderson highly recommend that she freeze her eggs before beginning any treatment, if she hopes to have children one day. Unfortunately, this is not covered by insurance at all.
I am starting this go fund me account in hopes to raise money to help alleviate the financial burden that comes with being diagnosed with cancer. As we all know, insurance does not cover 100% of medical expenses, let alone travel costs, hotel stays, meals, and missed unpaid time off from work. The stress of worrying about how you will pay off unexpected extreme medical bills, is not what Victoria needs to be worrying about, and unforunately it is a main concern of hers right now. As her best friend, this breaks my heart, because the most important thing she needs to be focused on is her health and kicking cancer's ass! Many of you have already asked "How can I help?!" and my answer is, let's all come together to help out our beautiful friend. Donate what you can; no donation is too small. Life is about helping others in need, and spreading love. Thank you for reading Victoria's story. Love, Lexi Langlinais
