We have to go through our 6th surgery
Victoria Juarez was born in Lima, Peru on September 29, 2010 with deformation of her extremities (arms, hands, legs and feet). We visited many specialists and Victoria had many test done, after a month of testing she was diagnosed with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC). It is a disorder that affects the normal development of the muscles and is characterized by multiple joint contractures.
We searched for ways to help Victoria in Peru, but due to the little understanding of the disorder we were not able to begin treatment in our country. We knew we had to find a solution so we started searching on the internet and found Shriners Hospitals for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Victoria was 8 months old when we traveled to Philadelphia. She started with a series of casts that were changed every week for five weeks (The Ponseti method) she then had a surgery to cut tendons. After four weeks, she turned a year old which coincided with her first major surgery in which she had her femur cut. The cut femur would allow both legs and feet to align. After this surgery metal plates were left in her body.
We returned to Peru after 6 months (from July 2011 to January 2012). We waited three months and then returned to Philadelphia in April for two weeks for check-ups and then returned to Peru. Six months later (September 2012) we returned for another surgery and to monitor her development. Victoria is currently undergoing occupational therapy and physical therapy.
Victoria will have many surgeries in her lifetime and the next surgery it may be the mosth difficult
Victoria will have a fixator in both legs fot 8 months
. This process is a very long one and we know that we will have to have much patience and faith
Our dream is it her can walk
We appreciate any and all help for the costs of our stay in the United States because we know it's a long hard road, but we trust in the good will of all the people who want to help us, with a grain of sand we can form a great mountain. We appreciate the time you have taken to read this. God Bless.
