For 3 Years I have been working closely with Scoliosis Foundation Ghana. My 3rd Annual Charity Showcase which I throw in Manhattan in honor of them is coming up. 100% of proceeds are donated. Last Summer I traveled to the Sowutuom-Nsumfa Traditional area in Ghana to talk on Scoliosis Awareness and experience the conditions and treatment availability there. Gabriel Ntow Quao is the founder of Scoliosis Foundation Ghana, he has spent his 43 years of life suffering severe scoliosis which impairs his breathing, wakes him up in severe pain, and is rejected by a large part of society because of west African superstition. Instead of seeking treatment for himself Ntow Quao started Scoliosis Foundation Ghana 5 years ago and single handedly found ways to fund the program and go around to schools to promote scoliosis awareness, and anti bullying in regards to spinal deformities. When families in the area cannot afford the surgery for their child they reach out and he goes far and beyond to raise money and find donors to fund their surgeries. I asked Gabriel Ntow Quao why he has spent all this time trying to help others with their condition but hasn't had the surgery himself and he told me that because the surgery is very expensive (20k for his curve) he has not been able to afford it and that he has already suffered it most of his life and would prefer to help the children. However, if Ntow Quao does not get treated for his condition his curvature is so severe that it will continue to grow and result in him ending up in a wheelchair and early death. Right now Gabriel Ntow Quao is raising money for the surgery of a young girl in the area by the name of Victoria. Her mother contacted Gabriel a few months ago asking if he could help with funding her surgery. Victoria is a young bright girl who is top of her class. I had the pleasure of meeting her in person and she is very intelligent and lovely for such a young age of 14. However Victorias father had suffered a stroke in the last year which requires the family to care for him. I asked Victoria about her experience with the condition and she told me that she is frequently bullied and that it pains her very much to even bend down. If her condition is not treated she faces the possibility of becoming paralyzed. The video for both Gabriel and Victoria will both be attached for you to take a look at. Victorias surgery, since it is less advanced than Gabriels is 10k. Any donation is appreciated, they are in need of funding for the organization as well.
