Volunteer in the Amazon - Instituto Socioambiental

Hi, I’m Victor Saavedra and a student at NYU and a Consulting Director at 180 Consulting , the leading volunteer student consulting group in world, providing services to non-profit organizations. After working with socially conscious organizations at 180 Degrees Consulting, I decided to look for an opportunity to dedicate my summer to a social cause. Because my family is from Brazil, I felt compelled to go there to share my resources and competencies.

I’m excited to have connected with Instituto Socioambiental  (ISA) to work on a not-for-profit project in the Brazilian Amazon! However, I need some help to make this possible and leave a lasting impression for social good.

I’ll be working with the Xingu division of the organization - the Xingu is a river where many groups of indigenous peoples have been confined to the extractive reserves. My job will be to support the development of sustainable income streams so they can preserve their cultures.

Unfortunately, I don’t have all the funds I need to cover the expenses of the trip, food, shelter, vaccines, and transportation within the Amazon. Hopefully with your help I can cover these expenses (~$5000). Additionally, I’d like for us to help Instituto Socioambiental as much as possible. So, the remainder of the money is for computers and telephones that can aid the development of their work. In the same vein, if you would prefer to donate a used computer/phone (in good working conditions), I’d be very happy to deliver it to ISA. I am sure this will be an incredible, transformative opportunity for me, and I am looking forward to sharing that with my friends and fellow students. I can’t wait to start living and sharing that experience with you!
