On August 18, 2019 my mother had a stroke due to her her blood pressure being extremely high. She hit her head on our bathtub which caused a massive brain bleed. When she arrived to Lake St Louis hospital, they took a cat scan and the brain bleed was so bad, the doctors came to the conclusion that she would not survive this stroke. She wasn't able to breath on her own so they put in a breathing tube. She was then transferred to DaPaul hospital. The Neuro Sugeron informed us that he must place a drain in my mother's brain immediately in order to save her life. She wasn't able to speak. She has paralysis on her left side. She had to get a feeding tube due to not being able to swallow. The outcome did not look good but by the grace of God and my mother's will to live, she has surpassed the doctors and nurses expectations. She is truly a miracle! After three weeks of ICU, she is now in rehab and has made a few trips back to hospital. She does not have health insurance. She will need speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy. She will have to learn to walk and talk again. It will take months and possibly a year before we know what her quality of life will be. With this being a brain injury, it's hard to tell what the future holds but I want to make sure my mother has everything she needs to live a happy and healthy life.
