Let’s Be Her Village - Support Ricca’s Education

Hi, my name is Carolynn, and I’m an adjunct professor at BYU-Hawaii, seeking tuition support for one of my college students, Ricca Adams, who is a first generation Black / Hawaiian female student.

Ricca is a junior student in the work / study program at BYU-H, and is facing a funding shortfall to continue her education. The work/study program requires a family contribution each semester, and Ricca is facing a $2K shortfall each semester for the previous term (fall 2023) and the upcoming 3 semesters ($8K total for 2023-2024).

She has completed 2 years of her 4-year Bachelor’s program, and also works part-time to contribute to her costs while completing her classes. She is doing as much as she can personally.

Due to the nature of the work / study program, Ricca is ineligible to take out student loans or receive Pell Grant support. Her family is also unable to assist, and alternative sources of funding are unsure at this time as well.

The deadline to raise $2K is January 9th, when classes begin. If we are unable to meet this deadline, Ricca will need to withdraw from school and find new housing, an off campus job, and lose access to needed health and medical resources on campus.

She plans to graduate in 2026, with 2 years remaining. My hope is to raise the $2K needed to cover the previous semester tuition balance, and any support we can generate to cover the $6K Family Contribution for the upcoming Winter, Spring and Fall semesters of 2024. This will allow Ricca to continue in her schooling while also applying for additional scholarships that may help in her senior year, in 2025.
