In Memory of Vince Patterson

Donation protected
Hi, this is Charity Ohlund. Meagan and I were roommates at KU, living above some LOUD guys below us back in 1997 when one day one of those guys came and knocked on our door after we stomped on the floor to quiet them down. :) It was Vince and his roommates, and well, the story of Meagan and Vince began.

I've set up this fundraiser to honor Vince and to continue what was always his biggest goal and dream - to give Greyson every opportunity to succeed in life.

Your generous donation will be used solely for higher education-related expenses as Greyson heads to college in 2024. All proceeds will go directly to Meagan for help with tuition, room, and board. Greyson is an extremely gifted student and golfer, and hopes to attend either a regional college to play golf or The University of Kansas to follow in his parents' footsteps (and to stay close to mom during this difficult time). Thank you!

Malvin Vincent “Vince” Patterson
January 13, 1975 – October 16, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vince Patterson, who joined his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 16, 2023. He was born on January 13, 1975, and left a lasting impact on the lives of those who knew him.

Vince was born in Kansas City, MO, and raised in Olathe, KS, where he graduated from Olathe South High School in 1993. He worked for more than 20 years in finance and marketing for the telecommunications industry. During his 15 years at Lumen Technologies, he was known by his co-workers as a talented analyst with an eye for detail who brought creativity and humor to the team.

Vince will be remembered for his unwavering faith in Christ, his distinctive and contagious laugh, and his ability to impersonate nearly anyone. He loved coaching, fishing, golfing, and his beloved KU Jayhawks.

But more than anything, Vince most cherished his roles as Meagan’s husband and Greyson’s dad.

Meagan and Vince were married on January 8, 2000, at the Kansas City Museum. They met at The University of Kansas in 1997 while Vince was studying business administration and Meagan was studying speech-language pathology before both going on to earn their master’s degrees.

Greyson was born in 2006, and Vince was smitten at first sight. From teaching Grey to fish and golf and coaching the Hoopers basketball team to countless nights in the dugout with club baseball, Vince soaked up every second of being an amazing dad.

Vince was a beloved son to Malvin Patterson (Sandra Patterson) and his late mother Vivian Elaine Strawn Patterson. He was also a loving brother to Monica Beverly (Ricardo), Eric Witherspoon (Tajuana), Chante Block (William), and the late Chaunna Layton (Killi).

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21 at 1 p.m. at Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 W. 87th St Pkwy, Lenexa, KS, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. All who wish to honor and remember Vince are invited to attend.

Burial to follow at 4 p.m. at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.
