Vincent Hayden's Journey to Recovery

On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 19th, 2022, Vincent started his day as he normally would, taking care of his dog and others. He left his home to run an errand for a family member, and the dreaded phone call no mother wants to ever receive, happened. Vinny was headed westbound on Merrick Road as an older man was making a left-hand turn. He struck Vinny off of his motorcycle, causing him to be immediately airlifted from the scene to Nassau University Medical Center. Vinny suffered life-threatening injuries that caused severe damage to his brain, spine, and extremities. He required immediate medical attention and emergency surgery to correct the displacement of his cervical vertebrae. He is also receiving constant medical attention at the hospital for subdural hemorrhages and a diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

For those of you that don’t know Vinny, he’s amazingly hard-working, loving, and charismatic. Vinny has spent the majority of his career working as a carpenter and he can build almost anything, just like his father. Vinny is the most incredible friend, son, brother, and uncle - he always lights up a room.

Vinny will continue to undergo multiple surgeries but is making progress. Despite the injuries, both internal and external, we are beyond blessed that Vinny has opened his eyes and we are able to see his baby blues. We can’t thank everyone enough for the outpouring of love, support and concern for our family. Vinny’s contagious laugh, smile, and personality is undoubtedly irreplaceable. We know this is going to be a long road ahead, but together as a family, we will support Vinny in any challenges he faces.
