March 2024 Update: The perpetrator was arrested and ultimately indicted on attempted murder and related charges, and remains incarcerated during the pendency of this prosecution.
*Mr. Yoo's road to recovery is still a long and difficult one and we need your help*
We are fundraising for Mr. Kang Hwan Yoo, a 70 year-old immigrant small business owner who was the victim of a violent stabbing on December 15, 2023. Mr. Yoo was stabbed repeatedly about the torso during an alleged robbery of Mr. Yoo's beauty supply store.
Mr. Yoo was in critical condition for three weeks. Although Mr. Yoo's physical condition has slightly improved, he is still in the intensive care unit (ICU) and his path to recovery will be a long and difficult one.
Mr. Yoo needs our help. He was the main provider for his family, and his small business will be closed indefinitely. As an immigrant small business owner, he has put years of hard work, sweat and tears into his store. Let's support Mr. Yoo and help him keep both his store and his American dream while he recovers from this vicious attack.
Please contribute what you can. Let's show Mr. Yoo and his family that the community has their back and that love, not hate, triumphs in the end.
This is the official Yoo family approved GoFundMe for Mr. Yoo, organized by community leader John Park and in collaboration with the Korean American Association of Greater New York (KAAGNY), Korean American Civic Empowerment (KACE), and the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY).
