Viorel Petroi ’s Funeral & Burial
Donation protected
On the early evening of 22 Nov 2019, our family experienced a tragedy that will forever change our lives. My 48 year-old brother-in-law, Viorel, was walking home from work on Friday evening, when he was suddenly struck by a car. Both Viorel and the driver of the car died at the scene. Our family lives in Romania but Viorel was working in England. He was a friendly, hard-working man from a modest family, who was doing everything he could possibly do, to make a better life for my diabetic sister and their daughter, Denisa. He had been working in Norwich, UK for a short time and had just saved enough money to purchase a plane ticket to come home in a few weeks for Christmas. Instead of celebrating the holidays with them, we will all be planning to bury him.
In addition to having to coordinate and fund the repatriation of Viorel’s remains across Europe, we must now finance his unexpected funeral and burial back in Romania. Denisa, who just turned 18, had plans for college but now must live the rest of her life without her beloved father, while caring for her mother. His 80 year old Romanian parents, who are both seriously ill, are now grief-stricken beyond words and trying to process this weekend’s news like the rest of us. Viorel did not have life insurance or money saved to cover death expenses. Expected costs for both transporting his remains and funeral will be at least €10.000...which would have been almost a full year’s salary in the job where he died while walking home from this weekend. We are asking for any donations you can spare just to help us through this difficult time, so that we can return Viorel to his family in Romania and provide him with a proper end-of-life ceremony.
