Vira Hong, age 70, of Washington, DC, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. She spent her last moments with her sister, beloved kids & grandchildren. Vira Hong was a proud believer in the Christian faith and spoke the gospel until her dying breath. Vira was an active go-getter, an ambitious, well-respected entrepreneur for multiple business ventures.
She was humbled by volunteering and focusing on communities in need by assisting, providing, and supporting other active service members, veterans, their families, and the homeless population by sharing knowledge and information on how to get different types of assistance from various organizations for their particular needs. She spent most of her days helping and healing others.
She was survived by her sisters Dawy Hong and Vathana Hong Phiev of Paris, France; Lydia Hong & Mike Cochran of Frederick, Maryland; Her sons Vladimir Vy; Christopher Vy & Vannarain Tan and grandson Micah Kona Vy; daughter Stephanie Vy & Chhun Path and granddaughter Serena Path.
Preceded in death by her mother, Amra Peo Um Hong; her father’s Excellency, Dr. Doeung Hoeung Hong, Cambodia Ambassador in Amman, Jordan, and previously part of the diplomatic corps in Paris, France; Rangoon, Burma, and in Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Hong served in the United Nations for many years traveling worldwide and playing an active role in all historical conferences promoting peace, prosperity, and human rights to the world (The Paris Peace Treaty, Geneva Conferences, La Hague, and United Nations). Vira Hong was the maternal granddaughter of Dr. Peo Um, from the Kingdom of Cambodia, from which Peo Um School still stands today.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made through GoFundme account.
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Vira and the Hong/Vy family! God Bless.
