Virtual Hug of Support for Mike and Ev Lafreniere
On July 13th, 2020 our cousin Mike Lafreniere suffered a massive brain aneurysm and subsequent stroke and has since been battling for his life in hospital.
Over the past few weeks, Mike has undergone countless treatments and tests. Each one with many ups and downs. He recently had his breathing tube removed and underwent a tracheostomy to more efficiently provide air to his lungs. He currently has a shunt inserted into his brain to allow the fluid to drain into his abdomen. He has very limited response to the outside world and is still unable to communicate with those around him.
His team of doctors are trying every approach. Each day all we do is hope for good news. His condition remains critical.
Those of you that know Mike, know he is an amazing guy. A gentleman, a fierce friend, hardworking, an avid fisherman, sharer of great music and a loyal brother, son and dog dad.
But nothing compares to his love for his wife Ev and the life they have created together. This couple oozes admiration for one another and everyone who knows them will attest to it.
Ev has not left Mike’s side during this absolutely horrific situation. She is determined to bring Mike home, whatever it takes. She is not giving up hope and we know Mike knows she is there with him every day. As a family, we are amazed at her strength and determination every day.
The life altering injuries Mike has sustained has put Ev into the role of being the sole income provider. As you can expect, Ev simply cannot be working right now. All her attention and time is being spent on Mike and the care he is receiving in the intensive care unit. We can only imagine the toll it is taking on this absolutely genuine and beautiful woman, both mentally and financially.
Many of Mike and Ev’s friends, family and colleagues have been asking how they can show their support and/or help this beautiful couple during this absolutely gut wrenching time.
A collection is being started for those who wish to donate to help with expenses as a result of Mike’s critical situation. Donations will help Ev cover the daily expenses that life brings in addition to the loss of work income and daily hospital and care expenses.
We want to thank each and every one of you for your donation and for all the kindness and positive thoughts you are sending to Mike, Ev and family. We will continue to update as Mike’s situation evolves.
With love and thanks,
Michelle Veinot and Sonya Cameron
