Hi, my name is Rida batool, I was born in Dudley West Midlands. Despite being born with Alström Syndrome and microcephaly, which are extremely rare and have profoundly impacted my life, I've persevered with the support of my community and family.
At the age of 7, I lost my sight and subsequently began using hearing aids due to my hearing loss. Managing type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance is a daily challenge, requiring multiple insulin injections to regulate my blood glucose levels. I communicate non-verbally through body language, gestures, and sounds, adapting to my unique way of interacting with others.
In addition to these health challenges, I also battle fatty liver disease and cardiomyopathy of the heart. Despite these difficulties, my time at Pens Meadow School from September 2009 to July 2024 was a cherished period. The school provided exceptional care, addressing every aspect of my well-being and development.
Now, as a young adult, I face the challenge of finding day care services tailored to my specific needs. A structured daily routine is crucial to my health and well-being, ensuring I remain active and engaged. The absence of specialized day care provision for individuals like me is a significant concern. My mother is dedicated to advocating for services that cater to our unique needs, recognizing the vital role such facilities play in our lives.
Through sharing my story, I hope to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with complex medical needs and disabilities like mine. Access to specialized care and support services is essential for our independence, growth, and overall quality of life.
Our vision is to establish a state-of-the-art facility in Dudley, a county with a significant population of adults who have visual impairments and multiple profound learning disabilities. Currently, there is a lack of day service support for these individuals, leaving a critical gap in their care and development. Our facility aims to address this need by offering comprehensive services that promote well-being, skill development, and community engagement. Through specialized programs and a dedicated team of professionals, we aspire to enhance the quality of life for these individuals and their families, ensuring they receive the support and opportunities they deserve. We are currently seeking land in Dudley that will accommodate our multipurpose facility. Our centre will provide access to daytime support and specialized facilities, including a sensory room, music room, and arts and crafts areas. Additionally, we will offer opportunities for landscape gardening, allowing individuals to engage in therapeutic outdoor activities. We invite the community to join us in this endeavor and contribute in any way they can to help us achieve our mission together. Our current goal will contribute towards the registration of Vision for Me Centre
