Vision scientists support LGBTQ rights in FL
Tax deductible
The Vision Sciences Society has held its annual meeting in Florida for 21 years. We come from all over the world but are now connected to that state. Many of us are deeply troubled by Florida's new so-called "Don't Say Gay Bill" (HB 1557 ), which attempts to silence and ostracize LGBTQ+ students, teachers, and families in public schools.
At our conference this May, we invited a speaker from Equality Florida, a civil rights organization dedicated to full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. He told us several ways that VSS members can support their mission and engage with the local community.
The most direct and immediate way we can help is by giving money to Equality Florida. That is the purpose of this fundraiser. Please consider making a donation, however small or large you can afford, and spread the word to fellow vision scientists or anyone else you know.
The money will support Equality Florida's efforts in education, grassroots organizing, coalition building, and lobbying. The goal is to change Florida so that no one suffers harassment or discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Here is some more info on their recent effects to combat the new state law.
This fundraiser was organized by Visibility.
