Visions of Home for Bridges4Life
Donation protected
Visions of Home is a collaboration between Smear Campaign, a queer interdisciplinary multi-media collective, and Bridges4Life , an organization built on helping the Trans and Gender Non-Conforming Community by providing services to children in the foster care system, young adults, and surviving sex workers.
Smear Campaign is working with members of the Bridges4Life community on creating an immersive, multidisciplinary experience with the ultimate goal of raising funds to purchase a brick and mortar "home" for Bridges4Life in New Jersey. A building that Tahtianna, the founder of Bridges4Life, describes as:
“a big huge hospital size building, about the size of Bellvue... Yes, so I would like a huge enough building that I can provide these people with a huge enough room or apartment that they can live in for free. And that through private donations, I can possibly pay all of the taxes and all of the lights, everybody's light bill and just pay all of the utilities involved with that building so that people could just come in there with a two-year extension on living there for free. And within those two years, learning how to educate themselves, get them job-ready, and just get them prepared for the regular world - for the regular world and help them make that transition into their own apartment. And to their own, you know, facility, living in, and I feel like that's very important.”
The piece will be devised with nine community members, all of whom will be paid for their contributions and talents. Together, we are exploring themes around home, community, and dreams. Some questions we are asking include: What does it mean to have a home? Can a community be your family? Can having access to safety allow for the pursuit of dreams?

We are fundraising to pay our collaborators (a minimum of $200 each) and pay for materials and a venue for the installation.
