Virtual Music Therapy for Anacostia HS
Donation protected
Help SE DC’s very own Anacostia High School students grow as community members and rap artists!
Since 2013, Anacostia High School in Southeast Washington, DC has provided a music therapy program to help students process trauma, grief, loss, or any number of social/emotional issues that come with being a teenager.
DC is on pace to have the most gun related deaths in well over a decade, and combined with insecurity over COVID-19, it’s critical to address our students’ mental health.
The Anacostia PTSO is seeking donations to provide 15 Anacostia High School students with the technology necessary to do their music therapy at home.
Unfortunately, the DCPS provided technology does not meet the necessary criteria for music recording, which is why we are seeking help from the community. With your help, Anacostia's music therapy program will go uninterrupted during social distancing.
Each student will receive:
1 laptop capable of supporting studio software and a vocal microphone (DCPS/DCPSC devices are not reliably able to support these items).
1 UBS vocal microphone
1 music production software suite
With this technology and the guidance of Anacostia High's mental health team, students will be able to record high-quality rap, vocal, or spoken work from home. In addition to therapeutic benefits, student will learn the marketable skill of sound engineering and music production.
The estimated cost per student is $350 dollars. With the school year already underway, we need to get this technology in the student's hands as soon as possible!
Updates will be posted as the campaign progresses.
Thank you, and our students appreciate your support!
