Halabs Jasmine Kitchen Emergency Fund

Halab's Jasmine Kitchen is a small family business run by Ibrahim and his wife, Rawiya. Ibrahim and Rawiya and their five children came to Utah in November 2016, after fleeing their home in Aleppo, Syria. They are extremely grateful for the welcome they have received in their new community in Salt Lake City where their five older children all attend school and they recently welcomed a new baby son.  They are excited to hopefully become American citizens after two more years and love their new home and community in Utah.  The COVID-19 outbreak has been a major setback for the family and they are seeking help during this difficult time.

Ibrahim has made his way around the family kitchen since he was a child and began experimenting with different recipes. Seeing how excited new American friends were to try their recipies, Ibrahim and his wife Rawiya decided that owning their own food business would be a great opportunity to support their family in America.  With the help of Spice Kitchen Incubator, a food business incubator focused on creating opportunities for refugees and disadvantaged individuals, Ibrahim and Rawiya's dream of starting their own business came true. Over the past two years, they have worked to complete necessary training and raise capital to first start working as a catering business and in December 2019, opened their food truck, Halab's Jasmine Kitchen. Halab's Jasmine Kitchen is a food truck and catering business, serving authentic Syrian cuisine including specialties of chicken shawarma and falafel wraps. Over the past several months, Halab's Jasmine Kitchen has expanded their daily customer base to become a successful food truck business.

Ibrahim and Rawiya are now worried that as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic, the business will not be able to survive.  They have had to close the food truck and all catering events have been cancelled.  Ibrahim and Rawiya are excited to get back to work when it is safe and healthy for their business to operate again, and are raising money so that they can continue to pay their bills and be ready to start back up when the situation improves. They are grateful to everyone who is able to contribute during this difficult time.
