Help Sharon Rebuild After Hurricane Helene

My name is David Cannon and I am sadly organizing an effort to help a dear friend Sharon Hughes, who is a 76 year old vibrant Burnsville, NC woman. Sharon and I have been friends for over 35 years and she is a meaningful part of my life. I live in Todd, NC and witnessed the storm from another part of the mountains.

She lost everything in this recent catastrophic storm. Her home was across from the Cane River in Burnsville, NC which as many of you know was hit suddenly from the unprecedented rise of water during Hurricane Helene. This has never occurred in written history. Sharon realized the river rose up on her home’s foundation early that morning and she literally grabbed her pets and her phone and ran out the back door and up the hill behind her. She sat on the hill with no where to go for 8 hours, 4 hours in the rain while she watched home, her garage, her vehicles, tractor, outbuilding and everything she had worked so hard for float off into the river and trees. The home she owned for 26 years was her passion as she had remodeled it for well over a year and also put in an envious garden over time pouring her heart into that and her beautiful landscaping.

Sharon is a young 76 year old and a loving active member of her community. We are lucky that we didn’t lose her in this disaster. She is UNINSURED FOR FLOODS. Flood insurance is separate than homeowners insurance, so she is having to pay for damages OUT OF POCKET. Winter is coming and I am very concerned about Sharon living in the mountains in the cold alone. Please open your hearts and share what you can to get her back on her feet and rebuild her life. Rebuild a smaller home and have shelter while she does

Put in a new well. (She was able to get a new well drilled and in great time. She now has water!!!! )

Put in a new septic system

Purchase a used mechanically sound vehicle to get around
