Help Establish A Home!

Hi I'm Heather! Gerti is my pup, and we are working on putting together a home to foster kids! There is a significant need in Berrien County, Michigan for foster homes. I was a CPS worker for almost 6 years and saw the incredible need for homes that could take sibling groups or pregnant teens. I have wanted to do foster care since then, and finally after almost 20 years of being a social worker (this spring!) and finishing up my Master's degree with trauma focus, I am excited to be jumping in!!! I haven't forgotten this need being so real! And now, after much prayer in asking if I should move forward, God has provided a home! Like literally a 5 bedroom 2 bath house, that has been set aside for this very purpose! I am so excited!

I need my community to support this endeavor with both prayers and monetary support. I cannot do this alone! Help with rent (especially getting started), heat, beds, dressers, books, games, toys, bedding, towels, and so much more. Building a home for up to 4 kids (that's all my car will hold!) in a month is going to take purposeful effort!

If you live locally and have donations of items in good condition, I would love to talk about that too!! (already have a couple of beds!) The plan is to move in on January 1! The home needs to be established and ready for kids, to get licensed.

I also ask for your prayers! ONGOING! I have tried to prepare and grow for this as much as I can, and having never been a parent, I have no doubt I will be learning constantly! I pray for peace, patience and understanding, and definitely pray for each child placed, that they might have peace in their journey too!
