Support an ecobricks village project, Bukit Lawang,Indonesia

Donation protected
Hi,

my name is Janine and i am the co-founder of Bukit Lawang-Jungle Trekking, a small family-based agency ( since 2013 ), located on the beautiful island of Sumatra, Indonesia. From here we offer unique rainforest adventures into the Gunung Leuser National Park ( an UNESCO world heritage site ) with the fantastic opportunity to see the great sumatran orangutans in the wild and explore a very precious ecosystem with a huge fascinating flora and fauna.

We are committed to an ecofriendly tourism and feel responsible for humans, animals and nature!

Therefore we also created a little community project a few years ago - our CARE NOW project which aims to raise environmental awarness in our village throught different activities and initiatives in the community, and to actively fighting against the plastic waste pollution ( f.e. rubbish pick ups, free shopping tote bags, plastic recycling, less waste trekking policy ).

Please learn more here:

A big part of this project is creating so called ecobricks:

plastic water bottles strongly filled and stuffed with collected, washed and dried plastic trash, so that one can use them as building ecobricks. One ecobrick weighs about 0,5 kg means its filled with about 0,5 kg trash. It therefore takes a while and is exhausting work to create them. You can try at home by yourself.
To encourage local participation, we pay them 5.000 IDR per ecobrick ( a small local meal ).

Creating and using ecobricks brings several benefits; we just love this idea as a great recycling option for all the plastic trash and we are hoping to keep the nature clean and free from plastic pollution.

Learn here more about ecobricks:

With all collected ecobricks from the last years, we started re-building the small house of a local family. We were also able to build the family a proper new bathroom which was a happy moment for them as they were using a small river stream besides their house before for kitchen and bathroom matters.
You can see some steps and processes on the following pictures:

So far , we were able to create and use about 7.560 Ecobricks for the house rebuilding which means around 3.780kg of collected and recycled plastic trash!

For the last and biggest part of this local house rebuilding project, we are kindly asking for your help please as we are running out of funds and can not cover all all upcoming expenses anymore by ourself.
So with this fundraising campaign, we hope to collect enough donations to finish the last step of this ecobricks project.
We would like to provide a proper and good roof for this family and also re-build the last part of their old house with ecobricks which will also include an expansion of the right side of their house.
We plan to use 3.000 ecorbricks this time which means 1.500 kg trash which will not end up in nature!
Further expenses will be cement, sand, normal bricks, small stones, metal. wood for new doors and windows, material for a good roof, paints, nails, etc., and the sallery for the workers as well.
Happy to provide further details if you wish.

Thank you so much in advance to each person taking your time , reading this campaign and considering to donate what you can give!

It will also be a huge help if you share this campaign on your social media channels to spread our message widely and raise awareness.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Feel free to each out to us if you have any further questions:

Warmest regards,
Janine / Owner Bukit Lawang-Jungle Trekking
