Hi! My name is Samuel and I'm a transgender man. I'm ready for my body to align more with how I feel. I am ready to allow myself to feel more confident and at peace with my body. I started taking testosterone (T) on August 18th. It's been amazing so far. And the joy I have experienced from being on T gives me a hint about how amazing it will feel to get this surgery done.
I am scheduled to get double incision masculoplasty - a surgery that will remove my breasts and will allow me to have a masculine chest with Dr. Sidhbh Gallagher on January 5th, 2021 in Miami, Florida. I chose Dr. Gallagher based on her surgical technique that will allow me to have a safer and faster recovery. It's a specialized surgery that aligns with my goals and the outcome I hope for, and not just any surgeon can do it.
Dr. Gallagher is considered out of network and my current health insurance places substantial barriers to gender affirming care. As a result, I am planning on paying out of pocket for this surgery.
I am a full time college student at Western Michigan University and work as a paramedic and EMS educator here in Kalamazoo. I am unable to wait for surgery due to my rigorous school and work schedule. Timing it over this coming winter break was my only option. I am dedicated to my education and to the students and community I serve. Having top surgery over winter break will allow to me minimize the impact of recovery on my education and the students I teach.
I have never thought I would be in a position to ask for financial help, but here I am. I need help from you to help me get surgery so I can allow my body to catch up to how I have felt for the past 26 years of my life.
