Phoenix Police Officer Jen Smith

Police Officer Jen Smith needs our help. Jen is a 27-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department, and for the last 20+ years, has worked with the Fugitive Apprehensions and Investigations Detail (FAID). This unit is responsible for locating and arresting the most serious criminals in and around the city of Phoenix. Jen was directly responsible for getting thousands of dangerous individuals off the streets during her tenure.

In August 2021, Jen suffered a bilateral pulmonary embolism that led to four consecutive heart attacks, a stroke, and a severe anoxic brain injury. She survived through the incredible efforts of the first responders of the Phoenix Fire Department, the doctors, nurses, and technicians in the Chandler Regional Hospital emergency room, and Jen's strong will to live. Her doctors initially said there was a 98% chance she would be in a vegetative state for the rest of her life. But they didn't know Jen. The same relentless desire to do something good in the world gave her the strength to begin to heal and improve. The most severe long-term impact on Jen has been the loss of movement in her limbs. For over ten months in various nursing facilities, while her body and brain healed, her arms and legs lost more and more function. Now, she is finally at an advanced therapy hospital where some talented and dedicated therapists are working to help her regain the ability to do basic tasks that we all take for granted, such as eating and bathing. She is making significant progress but requires additional time at the facility to finally make it safe for her to go home. Insurance coverage is limited, and financial assistance is necessary to help get Jen the treatment she needs and modifications to her home to accommodate her limited mobility.

Jen has served our community for decades, and you have likely seen or heard the results of Jen's work without knowing it was her behind the scenes. To quote directly from her last performance review, written five days before Jen went to the ER, "The arrests you have made in your career are impressive and impossible to quantify. The volume makes it impossible to remember the magnitude of the end result of less criminals on the streets and justice for victims."
