Volcano leaves family homeless

Don protégé
Volcano leaves family homeless before they get to officially move into new home--For over a year, this young family has been building their first home ever in Leilani Estates, HI. This all changed suddenly on May 3rd, 2018, when lava fissures opened up 2 blocks from their new home just nearing completion.  At 1:30 a.m., Kāne and Zan Saffery,  with only what they were wearing,  got their kids and dog away just in time to escape deadly fumes and exploding molten lava.

As the house was nearing the final inspection, the family spent many nights there instead of a one room, off-the-grid hale they lived in for almost two years, saving what they could for a better life.  They never seemed happier, both deep in love; respectful, well-loved children, and their special dream of owning their own house becoming a reality.

Their house is financed by a personal loan and they will be paying years on the mortgage. This loving family is facing a financial  crisis and they need our help. They are strapped with paying for a house they can't live in and trying to afford another home for their family at the same time.

They have lost most everything. Their immediate needs are food, safe shelter and clothes.  In addition, they need community support to help them provide another home for their family or help pay off the loan. Please help by supporting them in anyway you can at this time of hardship.

They have one child together, a 2-1/2 year old son. Zan has two other children, age 6 and 9 and Kāne has one, 12 year old daughter, both from previous marriages.

The Saffery's have worked serving their community at Island Naturals Market and Deli.  Zan for over 13 years and Kāne for over 6 years.

I could house them here but already the air quality is deteriorating. We are preparing our evacuation and relocation of all our farm animals.

As of today, 20 or more homes have been destroyed at the Leilani Estates. Please kokua.
