Volkman Family Cancer Fund

Donation protected
On April 14th, 2022, Nich Volkman was diagnosed with testicular cancer. A successful surgical procedure was performed and the subsequent full-body scans showed that the cancer was isolated and had not spread to any other region of the body. With a hopeful heart, that was supposed to be the end of the journey and the cloud that comes with the word cancer. In recent weeks, after feeling like something was off; Nich visited his doctor and an enlarged lymph node was located in his neck. After a biopsy, it was confirmed the enlarged lymph node in Nich’s neck was a ‘Metastatic Embryonal Carcinoma’. The cancer had returned and relocated.

To combat the resurgence, a 9-week chemotherapy plan has been devised by his oncologist which started on March 20th. Weeks 1, 4, and 7 are on a Monday-Friday schedule with ~8-hour sessions. The other 6 weeks will only include one session of a few hours on each Monday of that week. Weekends will always be off. Nich is currently at the end of week 1 and as you can imagine the effects of the treatment have already started to make an impact on his body and family.

As stressful as this process can be, one of the easiest ways we can help take some of that off of their plate is from a monetary standpoint. No family is prepared to handle something like this, especially when it happens so suddenly. The goal is to cover the Volkman family’s out-of-pocket maximum which is ~$9,000 for the remainder of the year.

Nich has been a firefighter for 15 years and is currently serving for a local department. Cassie, Nich’s wife, has worked in the medical field for most of her professional career as a nurse and is currently in the process of opening her own business. They have two beautiful little girls, Maeve (age 2 ½), Veda (age 1), as well as two pups, Sasha and Hazel.

Nich and Cassie have unselfishly served their respective communities by vocation and are beloved by all of their family and friends. Help us keep the Volkman family in our prayers as we try to relieve some of the medical costs so this wonderful young family can overcome this challenge and continue to thrive. Every dollar counts.
