Volunteering at the Namibia wildlife sanctuary

Hey my name is Tia and I am currently in my 4th year of Veterinary nursing at Hartpury University.

I have chosen to take on a volunteering module as part of my university course and came across this amazing opportunity to go to Namibia with the Mighty Roar and volunteer at the Namibia wildlife sanctuary for 2 weeks in April 2025. Fundraising is a required part of my module so I am creating this go fund me to help cover the accommodation fees, vaccinations and equipment that I need to take to Namibia with me and any left over donations will be going to the sanctuary.

This sanctuary is playing an important role in trying to reduce the impact of the current poaching and wildlife-human combat issues. They provide a safe haven for over 200 orphaned and injured animals and they aim to rehabilitate and release them back to the wild. Those that are unable to be released are cared for by the sanctuary team and volunteers.

This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to help develop and maintain their sanctuary as well as provide enrichment, food, medication and clean enclosures for many different species such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, baboons and meerkats. My role also includes going out into their reserve to monitor the free-roaming wildlife (carnivores, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and more!) I would be able to place camera traps, track the collared animals and observing nocturnal wildlife.

As part of my fundraising I will be challenging myself to run the Gloucester half marathon in March 2025 which I will be recording on Strava and I will vlog parts of my run as evidence. As part of my exam I will be creating a video of my experience with fundraising and going to Namibia which I will upload onto social media.
