Volunteering At School In The Gambia
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Joel. I am 15 years old and have been a Volunteer Police Cadet for Bromley since I was 10. I have applied and been successful to join Hackney Cadet unit on an incredible trip to The Gambia in February 2024, where we will be renovating a school. The work we will be carrying out will include decorating classrooms and communal areas, joining students in their classes to take part in lessons and activities.
What an amazing opportunity this will be for me to go and Volunteer in a country where the work we will do will leave a legacy and benefit so many young children as well as the wider community.
To share different experiences, life stories and make new relationships, all the while assisting in such a worthy cause and making a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves.
Hackney Volunteer Police Cadets have also been refurbishing unclaimed bicycles and arranging their transport to the Gambia in order that it may benefit the communities there since 2012. Many children live many miles from school and have no way of accessing education other than walking to school.
In 2017 as we handed over renovated bikes and distributed the books and school equipment we sent over, the condition of the medical room and classrooms were noted. A decision was made that we could help to improve the children’s education by renovating some classrooms so at least they had blackboards and a bright welcoming environment. In 2018 we renovated the school medical room including first aid supplies and a classroom along with pens, pencils, paper etc. in 2019 we renovated two further classrooms and in 2020 we renovated the nursery classrooms. This will continue whilst I am in Gambia
Please donate what you can to help me to get the resources to Gambia where we can really help make a difference.
The impact this will have on so many people within the community we will help will mean so much. The opportunity this will give so many young children and families by bringing books into classrooms, creating a happy and safe learning environment, providing uniforms that families cannot afford (children in Gambia can only attend school if they have a uniform which many cannot afford), and most of all the smiles on faces this will bring is such a worthwhile cause.
Please share my go fund me page and donate if possible.
Help us Renovate a school for the Children in Gambia!
