Volunteering at the Polish-Ukrainian Border

The idea

We support and organise volunteering at the Polish-Ukrainian border to help Ukrainian refugees. We  coordinate information, transportation, accommodation, and work on the ground for our volunteers. For more information, please visit our website.   

What we do on the ground

Our work takes place in Przemyśl, Poland, a city close to the border with Ukraine that serves as a major intersection for Ukrainian refugees arriving from the major Ukranian cities of Lviv, Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporijia, and Kharkiv. Some refugees travel by bus, car, or even cross on foot to reach Medyka, a modest town 2km away from the border, and from there to Przemyśl with a few suitcases and bags.

Przemyśl is often only their first stop, as many refugees will have to travel days by train to reach their final destination in Western Europe. Przemyśl’s mall has been turned into a shelter for families to rest in a warm place after a stressful journey and before they reach their destination. Local and international organisations manage the arrival with the help of volunteers and security provided by police and military personnel. 

 

Who we are

We are a group of volunteers from Italy, Germany, and France who are committed to improving the situation of Ukrainian refugees at the Polish-Ukrainian border. We have volunteered in Przemyśl and are planning a second trip at the end of March with more people and for a longer period of time.

How your donation helps

By donating to our project, you can substantially decrease the costs for the volunteers to come. Your donation will help us cover: 

- Costs of minivans to transport refugees and volunteers  
- Costs of accommodation for volunteers 
- Costs of flight tickets  

Finally, any unused funds at the end of the project will be donated to rigorously selected NGOs operating on the ground in Przemyśl and Medyka to support their work. These NGOs include Caritas Poland, International Federation of Red Cross, The Polish Scouting and Guiding Association
