Millie’s Volunteering in Nicaragua!

Hello! Thankyou for taking the time to check out my page. On June 2nd I will be flying to Managua, Nicaragua in Central America to volunteer with the local development non-profit organisation CEPAD. CEPAD is a Nicaraguan Christian organisation focusing work on helping communities and individuals to be the principal actors in their own development.

The work of CEPAD revolves around education, helping people develop the tools they need to sustain themselves and their families. CEPAD walks alongside rural communities using a variety of programs in sustainable agriculture, leadership training and economic development to find local solutions to local needs.

In my time in Nicaragua I will be working in one of these rural villages living with local families, learning and supporting the ongoing work in the community. This could be in any of their local projects, doing anything from helping build family allotments, helping organise community banking to help with women’s economic development, helping with their youth leadership programmes and working in food security programmes! The variety is slightly daunting but incredibly exciting as I’m willing to be thrown in where there is a need as I trust that God has called me to serve with this organisation. I’m eager to learn about development work from these communities and cannot wait to share what I will be doing in my time out there with you all!

I have costs to cover whilst in Central America (travel, accommodation, living and vaccinations) and I also want to give financial gifts to the families, projects and communities i’m working with. I’ve been saving up over the past year to be able to cover these costs and would appreciate any donations to help me and the people/places I’ll be working alongside.
