Vose Elementary School Supply Drive
Donation protected
Vose Elementary School (VES) is a Title 1 School - meaning the school has a high percentage of students from low income families and receives federal funding to help struggling students to meet state standards. VES currently has 612 students, of which 85% are on free or reduced lunch, 71% are English language learners and 74% are Hispanic. There are ten languages spoken at the school. Nearly half of the staff is bilingual and nearly the same amount is ethnically diverse. VES strives to “honor and embrace intellectual, cultural and linguistic diversity of its community,” a community that is reflective of the diversity of the City of Beaverton.
Many of the VES students come to school with limited school readiness. Lacking school supplies adds additional stigma and stress to both students and parents. The Leadership Beaverton Class of 2017 has selected a supply drive for VES to help alleviate the need of students and help them focus on learning.
The first priority for donations willbe to help us purchase additional supplies not recieved through the multiple supply drives throughout the community. Estimated value of supplies is $8000. Numerous businesses and nonprofits are sponsoring supply drives and we've applied for a $500 Welcoming Beaverton grant.
If we raise additional funding, we will provide funding for one to three of Vose staff members to attend Leadership Beaverton. Leadership Beaverton is a program devoted to strengthening and educating emerging and experienced community leaders. Leadership Beaverton provides in-depth insights into a variety of issues impacting residents of Washington County.
