Vox Media Layoff Fund 2023

On Friday, January 20, several members of the Vox Media Union, Dodo Union, and Thrillist Union were laid off as the company eliminated 7 percent of its workforce. We are devastated to lose our beloved colleagues, some of whom have been with Vox Media for nearly a decade. We are grateful to have industry-leading severance language in our collective bargaining agreement, but considering the economic outlook, we want to come together to help our colleagues who have been impacted by this layoff.

This GoFundMe is a collaborative effort between members of the Vox Media Union, Thrillist Union, and Dodo Union, and will directly benefit union members impacted by the January 20 layoffs. All funds raised will be distributed in equal amounts to all laid-off unit members who opt in to receive funds. The organizers of this fund will be reaching out to those impacted by the layoffs in the coming days with details about how to sign up for their share of the funds.

Together, we know that we’re all we’ve got. Since organizing, we have seen the wide-reaching benefits of solidarity that go so far beyond the language in our hard-fought contracts. Our unions are committed to standing together in support of our colleagues who were laid off, and will hold management accountable for the way in which these layoffs were conducted. With these funds, we hope to ease the financial burden that these layoffs have placed on our colleagues, some of whom are pregnant or currently out on parental leave, in a time of historic inflation and swirling economic uncertainty.

This fund is being overseen by a committee of Vox Media Union, Dodo Union, and Thrillist Union members, including Jaya Saxena, Ashok Selvam, Amy McCarthy, Lauren Hoepner, Victoria Barrios, Liz Provencher, and Maitane Romagosa. The fund will operate transparently, with full accounting of all donations that are received and distributed.
