Wimberley Flood Aid: Janette Ramsay

Janette Pearson Ramsay is a long time resident of Central Texas. Having lived and worked in San Marcos for over 50 years, she decided to retire to Wimberley to build a new home, her casita, on the Blanco River. Janette's parents, Earle and Versa Pearson, purchased the riverfront property in 1969. It has been a family retreat ever since.
Around 12:30 Sunday morning, May 24, Janette, being a night owl, was showering before turning in for the night. She knew that the Blanco was flooding that night, but since she had built her home 15 feet above the FEMA designated flood plain, Janette was not worried about the rising water. She knew there would be flood debris to deal with when the flood waters subsided, but it never entered her mind that her house and her life would be in jeopardy. However, during her shower she began to hear knocking, banging and cracking noises outside her house. Quickly throwing on a nightgown, she went to her front door to see what was causing the noise. When she opened the door, the river began rushing in. Making her way to her car in the garage, as the water rose higher and higher, Janette realized she had no way out. Thankfully, she was able to reach her grandson, Mason, on his cell. Mason and his father John along with Mason’s younger brother, Jack, came to her rescue. By the time they arrived at her home, the water level had reached her hips. Janette got out safely, but her house, her car, and of course all her belongs were flooded.
Janette has received many generous donations of time, man power and supplies; and she is very appreciative of everyone. However, aid in rebuilding is her greatest need, as unfortunately like most of the home owners on the Blanco River, Janette does not have flood insurance. If you can help Janette rebuild her home that she loved so much, she will be extremely grateful.
