On Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, a loving soul, mother, wife, teacher and friend was taken from us unexpectedly, and too soon.
For almost 9 years, my mother battled a debilitating chronic pain condition that countless doctors could never diagnose. Yet, she powered through and made the most of each day. She was physically limited, but she still taught several online classes at three different colleges year-round, read countless newspapers each day, participated in book groups and virtual education – she never stopped learning - and spent time with her family, including her husband of 50 years, Al.
Throughout her life, she did so much for humans (and animals) but never expected anything in return. She believed we should do all we can to make this planet a better place for those who come after us. And she did. She was a kind, caring, concerned woman who despite so many challenges, persevered and was the best teacher, friend and citizen that she could be.
My dad and I are now faced, not only with this insurmountable loss, but also the loss of the majority of their income. My father, an electrical contractor, scaled back his business to care for her. My mother had lost the ability to drive and do many physical activities. Her mind was like no other, but she needed help 24/7 from my dad to physically keep going. My dad embraced the role of caring for the love of his life, but it has left him with severe financial challenges.
We are asking for help paying for her cremation, future memorial service and related expenses. Also, financial help to get my dad get through the next several months as we make some difficult decisions related to their house, and to give us time to help my dad rebuild his business, made more complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
