Carolina Biodiesel has been biofueling community vitality for almost 20 years. Today, we need a little help to continue to close the loop, keep it local, and build resiliency.
This scrappy, visionary company has been biofueling green energy, jobs, and infrastructure since 2004, in East Durham and now out of Efland. Carolina Biodiesel is the only B100 biofuel distributor in the triangle, serving retail pumps in Raleigh at Larry's Beans, Carrboro Municipal facility, Efland and TS Designs in Burlington. Greenway Transit, their sister company, is the first and only green transportation company in the Southeast to run in its fleet 100% biodiesel from local waste.
In December 2021, the Tanker’s engine blew on the way to get fuel from Blue Ridge Biofuels, (Orange County had turned off our electricity at our EcoInnovation Park(https://greenoilcompanyllc.com/ ), telling us we couldn't produce or distribute without spending a whole lot of money, money that is simply not generated from the sale of the fuel). Frankly, it never has been cost effective to produce our own fuel, so we have supplemented our own production, selling our waste veggie oil collected from local restaurants to Blue Ridge and buy the fuel back. It has always been less expensive than tryng to do it all ourselves, too much paper work, too many"bells and whistles", too many regulations, too little margin and economies of scale.
Yes, sadly "old faithful" is out of commission, the Tanker that has fueled cars, tractors and trucks, as far as Wilmington and Greenville; the rigs of New Belgiums Tour de Fat; and the buses and rigs of: Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Melissa Etheridge, Jack Johnson and Nora Jones. The flow into the Triangle of NC produced biofuel from local waste has been out of commission for months.
