Dominican Republic Mission Trip '16

On January 12th, I will be joining fellow graduate students from USD, along with USD faculty, on a mission trip to El Cercado, Dominican Republic. I am currently in my 3rd year of the Dual Adult Gerontological/Family Nurse Practitioner program at University of San Diego. I am so very fortunate to have yet another opportunity to participate in more mission work through USD, sharing with other students my skills, knowledge, experience, and passion for nursing. More importantly, I will be able to give to a community in such need.
El Cercado is located in the hilly frontier area about 4 hours west of Santo Domingo, not far from the Haitian border. We will be working in conjunction with Saint Francisco Javier Fe y Alegria, a small parish church community with an elementary school consisting of approximately 325 students.
For many, health care in the community of El Cercado is limited. We will provide well-child examinations, health and developmental screenings, and home visits in order to identify needs for further health care education with families and established local health care providers; develop community health programs; and promote health in collaboration with local health care providers. Our long term goal is to improve the health of children and the community of El Cercado.
The cost of my trip is $1,500 including airfare, food, and transportation. Whatever funds are left over will be donated to the community for any supplies, etc. If a monetary contribution is not feasible, your prayers are just as appreciated.
