Support Sérgio's Fight Against Guillain-Barré

No dia 07 de outubro fomos surpreendidos com a notícia de que nosso querido amigo Sérgio, havia dado entrada no hospital de Mount Vernon, sentindo uma fraqueza anormal e formigamento nos pés e mãos.

Devido a gravidade do caso na manhã do dia seguinte, 08 de outubro já foi transferido para o Montefiore hospital no Bronx, onde já chegou sem nenhum movimento do pescoço para baixo. Diagnosticado com GBS (Guillain-Barré syndrome) precisou ser entubado na manhã de quarta-feira dia 09 de outubro, pois respirar já não era algo natural.

Sua situação se complicou um pouco mais com o surgimento de uma pneumonia.

A caminhada é longa, o diagnóstico confuso e o futuro incerto.

Pedimos a ajuda de amigos e todos que puderem estar nos ajudando nesse momento difícil, o Sérgio não tem nenhum familiar direto aqui nesse país, amigos próximos estão se desdobrando para estar com ele durante todo momento, uma vez que ele não consegue se mover ou comunicar nem mesmo em uma situação de emergência. No momento mantemos a comunicação através de uma placa de acrílico com o abecedário onde ele sinaliza com os olhos.

Pedimos também por orações e pensamentos positivos. Visitas também são bem-vindas e importantes nesse momento de solidão.

On October 7th, we were surprised by the news that our dear friend Sérgio had been admitted to Mount Vernon Hospital, feeling unusually weak and tingling in his feet and hands.

Due to the severity of the case, on the morning of the following day, on October 8th, he was transferred to Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, where he arrived without any movement from the neck down. Diagnosed with GBS (Guillain-Barré syndrome), he needed to be intubated on the morning of Wednesday, October 9th, because breathing was no longer something natural.

His situation became even more complicated with the onset of pneumonia.

The journey is long, the diagnosis is confusing, and the future is uncertain.

We ask for help from friends and everyone who could help us during this difficult time. Sérgio does not have any direct family here in this country. Close friends are doing everything they can to be with him at all times, since he is unable to move or communicate, not even in an emergency situation. At the moment, we maintain communication through an acrylic plate with the alphabet on which he signals with his eyes.

We also ask for prayers and positive thoughts. Visits are also welcome and important in this time of solitude.
