Help Esther Fight MDS
Donation protected
In March of 2015, my mother went for annual blood work. Her platelet count was abnormal. So, she followed up with a specialist. Doctors did not agree on a diagnoses. A few months past by and she began treatment in August, but there was no improvement. She switched jobs and found a doctor near her new employer. Thank God she did because this is when things began to worsen. She has needed platelet and blood transfusions weekly. Since the end of August until now she goes in every couple of days for lab work. There was still no diagnoses. Our family was praying for God to enlighten her doctors to find out what was wrong. Why her platelet count kept dropping. After a third bone marrow bioposy doctors agreed on a diagnoses, Myelodysplastic Syndromes or MDS. The only chance she has of surviving is if she has a bone marrow transplant. The next step was finding a donor. Quickly, friends and family offered and her doctor told her the best chance of a match is with a sibling. Both of my uncles were tested. Her youngest brother, was a perfect match! That only confirmed our faith that she would be able to fight this.
The treatment she will undergo is an aggresive form of Chemotherapy that will deplete her current bone marrow cells and prepare her for the transplant. After the transplant is complete she faces a long road of recovery; anywhere from 3 to 6 months. During this recovery phase she will not be able to work or do much of anything else for that matter. My mom is a hardworking woman that throughout this entire ordeal has barely missed work and continued with her daily duties beyond expectation. She is the primary bread winner in the household and times are going to get pretty tough for my parents.
I would like raise this money to help her and my dad while she is out of work.
Any donation would help, but most of all we ask for your prayers for her and my family throughout this difficult time in our lives. We are extremely optimistic about the outcome and have faith that God will restore her back to her normal health.
