On May 7th 2020, Nick now 36 got the news no-one ever wants to hear.... Cancer. Nick was diagnosed with stage 4 Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. This very aggressive form of cancer was invading his Esophagus, Liver, Spleen, and Pelvis. The diagnoses was devastating to the Conrad Family.
On May 19th, Nick was admitted to the hospital and underwent a Bone Marrow Biopsy along with a Spinal Tap. They both came back negative for cancer. He also had a port put in for his chemo treatments.
On May 21st Nick started his first round of chemo, and it ran for 96 hours straight. He is admitted to the hospital every 21 days to receive his 96 hours of Chemotherapy. That is 5 days in the hospital! And just until recently Nick was having to be up at the hospital without any visitors (due to Covid).
Nick's last PET Scan showed great progress in the cancers shrinkage. He still has a way to go, but the doctors are happy with the progress he has made thus far. The next plan is to have Nick's last round of Chemo starting September 4th. After that he will have another scan and from there they will decide if he needs any further treatment.
After Nick started his Chemo, his White Blood Cell Count started drop quite low. Because of this, Nick has to get an on body injection of Neulasta after every chemo treatment to help in getting his counts to go up, and to help his immune system.
Currently Nick and his wife Kassi are both not working. Nick works for Nystrom Electric as a journeyman electrician. Kassi does in-home daycare and has since had to stop due to Nick's condition. They can't risk Nick getting sick while going through treatment.
Anyone who knows Nick would agree he is the nicest, most selfless, and genuinely humble person you could ever meet. I've also come to realize that Nick is one of the strongest fighters. He has taken his battle day by day, and never once gotten down or complained about the cards he was dealt. That's just not Nick's style.
He is an amazing husband to his wife Kassi, of 10 years. An incredible father to his two fun-loving kids, Carter -7 and Rylee who is almost 4.
One of the main reasons I started this page was, that since beginning of Nicks battle, lots of friends and family have asked if we were going to do some type of benefit for Nick and his family. Believe me, I would love to do a benefit! But with Covid and Nicks health we really can't risk his health. This option seemed like the next best thing.
All the money that is raised for Nick and his family will help with medical expenses. So, if you could please, find it in your heart to help in any way. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
The Conrad Family never thought this would be their story....... No one ever does. They are taking it day by day, and praying that this is just a Chapter in their Story. Perhaps a bump in the road that God put there to show them just how precious life is.
Thank you all for caring.
