Save our Family Restaurant
To all who know us (and those who don’t), we are the Sherzad family. My name is Mashal, and my parents have owned the Khyber Pass Cafe in Saint Paul, MN for over 35 years. They each came to the United States with not a dime in their pockets, fate bringing them together on unfamiliar soil; and they’ve been building a beautiful legacy every moment since.
It hasn’t been easy here as Afghan Americans, and if you know anything about Masooda (my mother) and Emel Sherzad (my father)... you know their hearts are made of gold, and they work themselves harder than anyone should. I’m sure many of you can relate to watching your parents or loved ones get little to no rest, working tireless and endless hours to make ends meet. They’ve done an amazing job even when there hasn’t been much. But with the frightening events surrounding COVID-19, they are facing financial strife in ways they may not recover from. This will not only leave our family’s legacy broken, but their ability to provide for themselves will be halted. Please, not only to keep their doors open to greet you (whether it is with food and drink, or simply their outstanding hospitality), but more than anything to allow them to continue to make ends meet at home, we would be ever so grateful for any contribution you can make. #SmallBusinessRelief
