Almost 12 years ago, Pete was in a mountain biking accident in Vail, Colorado. This accident left him with life threatening injuries including a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). After 6 months of rehab in Colorado he was able to come back to San Diego to continue his rehabilitation. The TBI effected his balance and ability to work in a field that he loved. You can imagine how hard this must be for someone who was always active. He loved biking, running, hiking, traveling the world and photography. With this injury most of those activities were taken away from him. After a lot of hard work he has managed to be able to recover enough to live on his own, manage his finances, go to the gym and even be a caretaker for other people.
On July 26th of this year (two days before his birthday), Pete was involved in another accident that left him with a bleed in his brain that had to be emergently operated on. This accident has also left him with fractures in his neck and weakness on his left side. These injuries will take weeks if not months of rehab to recover from.
Those who know Pete can’t help but love him. He is kind, humble, caring and has never met a stranger. Even as he sits in his bed at rehab he is more concerned about how others are doing then himself. He always has looked at the glass half full and has always tried to find the good in life, even when life doesn’t look so good. As he continued to struggle with effects of the first accident he would always say “you can either laugh about it or cry---I am going to choose to laugh”.
Pete has a long road ahead of him to recover but he is determined to do just that. His insurance will cover the first 20 days of rehab but after that it will cost $100 a day. Pete will need at least 2-3 months of rehab to learn how to walk again and be able to take care of himself.
Would you consider helping out with funding Pete’s rehab?
