Road 2 Rio

My Road to Rio is a journey not a destination. There have already been bumps in the road. In October 2014, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) made a very unexpected decision to cut the PT5 Blind Category in Triathlon for the 2016 Rio Paralympics. This decision crushed my dream of becoming the first Paralympic gold medalist for the US ever in Paratriathlon. This decision may have broke my heart and my spirit but it never broke my drive to get to Rio.
As a result of the IOC’s decision to exclude the PT5 Blind Category in Paratriathlon, I lost all funding from the USOC and nearly all sponsors. I have been forced to pave my own road and it will be through Para-Cycling.
In order to make this dream possible, I will need to raise at least $50,000 through the Road2Rio Campaign. Funding will go towards race entry, travel for both my guide and I to races, lodging, transportation, food, training and racing equipment, living residence for my guide and I to live and train together and expenses to manage and execute the Road2Rio Campaign.
Over the last fifteen years, I have put forth a lot of time and energy into raising money for organizations I believe in and becoming an ambassador in the blind/visually impaired community. Raising support to accomplish my own dream is something that I have never done.
Your support in the Road to Rio Campaign is how I will accomplish a dream. Each and every person that supports me along the way plays an important part in helping not only me fulfill a lifelong dream but also will inspire future generations in similar situations to follow their dreams.
I also encourage all those that support and contribute to the Road2Rio Campaign to follow me on this journey on Twitter and Facebook @AaronScheidies as well as search #Road2Rio to get all the latest updates. The Road2Rio Campaign will be interactive. Individual supporters and corporate partners will be able to experience this dream with me through social media, video and blog updates and Road2Rio contests through social media and my website at www.cdifferentwithaaron.com
