South Loop Concerned Coalition Fundraiser

The One Central mega-development proposal poses a lot of concerns for the South Loop. A Wisconsin developer wants to use billions of taxpayer dollars to help fund a mega-development over the Metra tracks from 14th street to McCormick Place, a project that has been predicted will create new barriers, cause reduced property value and reduced taxes from existing residences. South Loop Concerned Coalition (SLCC) was formed to advocate for the South Loop neighborhood which will suffer dramatically during years of construction from the proposed addition of more than 6,500 parking spaces and more than 200,000 additional people to the community.
SLCC needs funds to hire experts, publicists and lobbyists to educate residents of the South Loop, the greater Chicago area, the Governor, the Illinois legislature, Mayor Lightfoot, and Chicago aldermen about the consequences and cost of the One Central mega-development. If we don’t have independent research to address our concerns, the developer can continue to press for taxpayer funding and request enormous expansion of the current building rights without opposition.
SLCC will use the funds you give to hire experts to evaluate the demand for a transit center, the commercial viability of office and retail space, the impact on density, traffic, infrastructure, sunlight, bird migration, environment and livability in the South Loop. Funds will also be used for media attention and continued vigilance to keep residents aware of what is happening with the project. We must assure our voices are heard. We have power when we act together. Join with us to be part of the process and play a role in a successful solution.
We are very grateful for your support. Contact us at [email redacted].
