Abbey Road Apartment Fire in Fleetwood, Surrey

In the late hours of Friday, May 14th, 2021, fire crews were called to battle a blaze at the Abbey Road apartment, close to 84th avenue and 160th Street in Fleetwood. Fire crews continued to fight the fires into the mid-morning on Saturday, May 15th, as the fires on the roof were particularly challenging for the firefighters to deal with.
There were 56 units affected by the fire in the four storey building. Ten units do not have content/tenant insurance, and many lost everything. A number of pets were also lost in the fire or have since been missing.
The Fleetwood Community Association and the Fleetwood Business Improvement Association have been working tirelessly in a collaborative effort to spearhead the response to this tragedy. We connected with emergency services, who supported the residents with vouchers for food and supplies and temporary housing. As the news of this tragedy spread, dozens of Fleetwood residents and businesses have reached out in support. Through our joint efforts, we have been able to utilize social media (namely the Fleetwood Community Corner on Facebook) to connect with various members of the community and representatives of different organizations, to streamline item donations and housing rentals into easy to navigate posts.
The roof on the Abbey Road apartments was recently replaced prior to the fire, and while the building is insured, owners are still responsible for the monthly roof levy payment. The purpose of this Go Fund Me campaign is to assist owners in the impacted strata corporation, with the levy payments of $550 per unit, which is due on June 1st. All donations will go directly to the strata corporation, and will significantly assist affected families who are already greatly struggling with the impacts of the fire and loss of property and belongings.
