On Tanasia's birthday...
On August 08, 2022, our dear friend Tanasia, experienced a tragic accident while traveling by car to Las Vegas, Nevada. The trip was planned a year in advance to celebrate her 29th birthday and was in sync with a few other alumni friends as a reunion, due to Covid previously postponing their arrangements. Late afternoon on August 07, 2022, Tanasia and a former classmate started their journey after saying their goodbyes to family. The driver set the GPS to their desired location and remained in the driver seat without taking a break. Hours later, Tanasia was in the passenger seat taking a nap when the driver veered off the road due to accidentally falling asleep at the wheel. When Tanasia attempted to open her eyes again the car was upside down in a rocky ditch. At this moment Tanasia recalls being frantic due to the seat belt security failing them both and the driver being in and out of consciousness. Tanasia managed to reach her phone without realizing her neck, face, and ankle were all severely fractured. In addition to having a broken back, extreme facial cuts and swelling, and excruciating head trauma. Tanasia called the emergency 9-1-1 hotline a total of 28 times before getting ahold of someone due to the poor signal. Approximately 45 minutes later the two individuals were rescued from the scene by being transported by aircraft to the closest intensive trauma care hospital, Renoun, located in Reno, Nevada. Tanasia was required to spend not only her birthday in the hospital alone away from family and friends, but a total of 3 weeks until the swelling was under control. During the 3 weeks Tanasia was fighting to regain her physical and emotional strength, enduring the severity of her wounds. Today, Tanasia is unable to work, she lost sight in one of her eyes, is continuing to heal from several body fractures, she requires daily assistance, and will be required to have multiple surgeries to repair her eye socket, facial structure, and jaw line.
Tanasia is a tenacious, lovely, genuinely friendly and smart lady and I know that with our support she will have a full recover. I remember her always with a warm and big smile, determined, compassionate, positive and eager to support others with joy and dedication. Let's make her feel that she is not alone, with your healing thoughts/ prayers and vibes, but also, and if you can, please consider to donate to her cause.
