Owen Strong

At 22 weeks of pregnancy my sister, Caroline and her fiancé, Scott were given devastating news about their sweet baby boy. Baby Owen who is due to arrive in November has a condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and heterotaxy. Simply put, the right side of his heart is the only functioning side while the left side is underdeveloped/closed off and not functioning. Heterotaxy is when organs are in the wrong place. We know that Owen's stomach on the wrong side, he has polysplenia and he a slightly shifted liver.

Once Owen is born, he will immediately be taken to the NICU to be stabilized and from there be moved to the pediatric cardiac ICU in preparation for his first of several open heart surgeries. Depending on how his stomach is functioning will determine whether or not he will need surgery on his intestines. Owen has a 70% survival rate.

Caroline and Baby Owen are under the excellent care of Johns Hopkins. They will continue to prepare Scott and Caroline and guide them through this challenging time. Owen has a team of doctors fighting for him and a family that loves him to pieces.

In hopes of easing some of the financial hardships, we have created this page. All donations will go towards covering the medical and travel expenses for Scott, Caroline and little Owen. Thank you!  #TeamOwen
