JoJo's Journey

JoJo is a GSD puppy. Just a baby- he is going to require extensive diagnostics and most likely surgery at a speciality center to give him the best possible chance at a long painfree life!
Before coming to us JoJo was living his life in long hours in a crate, not gaining any weight, regurgitating his food and at that point had not veterinary care!! Knowing I was a vet tech at a veterinary hospital I was contacted and asked to take this puppy! Of course I would!!
He got his puppy exam, vaccines, dewormer, started his heartworm prevention, a good kibble and lots of love!
My friend and other vet tech Anne took him home to foster and as you can see by the pics he just one amazing little puppy!
Last night Anne could see after his meal little JoJo was in agony and he developed literally a softball in his neck ( esophagus). Food was trapped there and she rushed him to our work. We took x-rays, gave him IV fluids and pain meds. He also bloated but thank goodness it resolved on its own.
Here comes the part we are going to need the help from our community as we our two little vet techs with huge hearts that really want to save JOJO!!!
JOJO needs to be seen ASAP at a speciality center. He will need extensive diagnostics- bloodwork, ultrasounds and most likely surgery.
He most likely was born with a congenital defect common with GSD called vascular ring anomaly. The only way to fix this is surgically which is in the thousands. Without this he runs the risk of many situations including aspiration pneumonia leading to death.
JOJO's update as of Sunday 11/15/2020- A board certified cardiologist has reviewed JoJo's X-rays. The next step is his scheduled appointment at Upstate Veterinary Specialties next Tuesday for echo on his heart followed by an angiogram to figure out his "plumbing" before his actual surgeries. These are two anesthetic procedures. If everything checks out on these procedures he will go in for corrective surgery on the anomaly after Thanksgiving. Even with my technician discount this is a hefty fee of $8,000-$10,000 after all said and done. Please Please help us save JoJo. He thinks most likely he has PRAA a form of vascular ring anomaly and with corrective surgery JOJO could live a normal life span!! yah!
