First Flight Middle School's Odyssey of the Mind team is headed to the world finals tournament at Michigan State University. These incredibly talented kids secured a first and third-place finish at the regional and state-level tournaments respectively, earning them an invite to attend the World Finals Competition on May 24-27.
What is Odyssey of the Mind?
Odyssey of the Mind is an international creativity competition that helps students develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, math, language arts, science, writing, engineering, and the performing arts.
Each year teams of 5-7 students choose from five different problems to solve. This year, the team from First Flight Middle School chose the Because iCan. For this problem, the team had to create a contraption that completed a simple task in a complicated manner. They designed a complex Rube Goldberg-type machine to do so. In addition, they wrote an original script, created all of their own props, scenery, and costumes, and learned about teamwork and creativity along the way!
Our team will be competing amongst 800+ teams from 27 different countries!
What do we need?
It will cost our team over $20,000 to attend the competition in Michigan. We need your help! Your donation will help to cover registration, lodging, travel, food, and trip-related expenses.
We sincerely appreciate any assistance you can provide to help our team get to Michigan State University for the World Finals competition. Your donation will go a long way towards providing these talented students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their talents, meet students from around the world, make a significant impact on their collegiate future, and proudly represent Dare County Schools on an international field.
